Chinese Contemporary has a long history representing artists from the Chinese avant-garde. Since the first gallery opened its doors to the public in 1996 in London, Chinese Contemporary has been dedicated to showing the work of the Chinese avant-garde post-1989. In 2004, Chinese Contemporary opened a gallery in Beijing at Factory 798 and, in January 2007, the gallery opened a space in Chelsea at 535 W. 24th Street.
