Frère Independent is proud to present "Me Me Me," the sixth New York edition of PooL, its annual
independent art fair. The PooL Art Fair will be held for the first time at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Chelsea after two successful years at the historical Hotel Chelsea. The change of venue — owing to Hotel Chelsea’s new management’s refusal to host the show: “We don’t care about legacy, image or any of this…All we want is money.” – allow a few good improvements for the viewers and new media artists. Each room offers a 32inch plasma screen and the Lobby’s three plasma displays promise quite a solid presence of new media art at this year show. This brand new hotel has reserved 2 to 3 consecutive floors just for the PooL rtists allowing visitors to have a condensed view of the artists’ works.
PooL participates in New York art week and is held concurrently with other major art fairs such the Armory Show, Scope Art Fair, Pulse and Bridge. "Me Me Me" opens on Friday, March 6th and runs until Sunday, March 8th. Opening hours are 3pm to 10pm.
This year we note the participation of acclaimed New York based curator David Gibson. Gibson will be presenting around 20 artists under the umbrella of Article Projects: his curatorial enterprise.
Focusing largely on artists that do not have representation in art galleries, the fair’s ambition is to create a meeting ground for artists, art dealers, curators, and buyers. The successor to the acclaimed New York Independent Art Fair (November 2000), PooL Art Fair serves as a launch pad for many artists in New York and Miami. The simple, modest approach of the PooL Art Fair offers an exciting alternative to the "art fair" experience for dealers and collectors, as well as to the general public.
The artists will use the Wyndham Garden Hotel’s rooms to show their works, creating an intimate setting. Each artist, or small group of artists, uses the hotel room as an exhibition space. The show will be comprised of artists, artists’ collectives and curators. Hence, the fair will serve as an invaluable resource for the artistic community and the general public. Our goal with the PooL Art Fair is to provide the public with access to art, while encouraging them to support and meet these emerging artists personally.
Frère Independent is a not-for-profit art organization that provides new avenues of dissemination and widespread visibility to emerging and independent artists who do not currently have gallery representation.
