Desi Santiago’s “Casino Diabolique”

The W Hotel debuted their first art commission in New York City in late November. We took a trip down the Hades to artist and creative director Desi Santiago’s Casino Diabolique.

Swathed in red velvet curtains, Santiago’s site-specific installation channeled Satan’s lair meets the White Lodge and One-Eyed Jack’s Casino from David Lynch’s cult classic Twin Peaks. Nightlife queen Ladyfag hosted a sinful opening party on Thursday, November 14.

The multisensory “futuristic pop-up casino” featured custom objects, scents, lighting and sounds. Visitors played rounds of blackjack and roulette on tables designed by the artist. Tomas Delucia of The Sense Society crafted a musky aroma for the hotel suite. All-over crimson lighting was imagined by nightlife guru Seva Granik. Luxe streetwear brand Hood by Aircurated the wardrobes of tarot card readers, card-dealers and servers. And the ambient (albeit maniacal) soundtrack was composed by electronic musicians Azari & III.
