CHRISTIANE CELLE OPENS SECOND GALLERY IN NEW YORK
WITH SOLO SHOW BY PAINTER JEANNIE WEISSGLASS
CHRISTIANE CELLE, owner of CLIC GALLERY on Broome Street and CLIC BOOKSTORE on Lafayette Street, is pleased to inaugurate her second gallery in New York with a solo show by JEANNIE WEISSGLASS. CLIC GALLERY, located at 255 Centre Street, will be devoted to exhibitions of emerging artists specially chosen by Christiane Celle. The exhibition runs June 9 to July 13.
WEISSGLASS’ vividly colored paintings and drawings depict enigmatic lost worlds. Drawing inspiration from references as diverse as vintage history books, Hudson River School landscapes and folk art, she layers paint and pattern with strong, swirling strokes. In this show, she will be presenting her newest work, a dreamlike, poetic series of triptyques and diptyques painted on six-foot wooden rounds or nine-foot wood panels. These shifting landscapes, peopled with cryptic revolutionary-era figures, reveal the unconscious energy of Weissglass’s process and express her desire to rein in the chaos of the world around her.
JEANNIE WEISSGLASS was educated at the New York Studio School and L’Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Nice, France. She has had solo shows at the Ethan Cohen Gallery and Farrell-Pollack Fine Art in New York, and has participated in numerous group shows in New York as well as the Instanbul Biennale in 2005. In 2008, her show PICNIC was the subject of a special pop-up exhibition in New York hosted by Hable Construction.
CLIC GALLERY is the newest venture by Christiane Celle, former fashion stylist. With both CLIC GALLERY LOCATIONS, Christiane, an avid collector, has turned her curator’s eye to presenting emerging artists.
