Jamali NYC Gallery is pleased to present The Four Horsemen, an exhibition of four monumental oil paintings incorporating natural elements, done outdoors from 2000 – 2008.
In Jamali’s series, The Four Horsemen, the artist is interpreting our worst fears and nightmares as a modern day apocalypse, one that could be happening right now. Thick, sculptural layers of oil paint and natural debris describe mummified figures floating in an abyss of murky colors. But these terrors aren’t being delved out by a vengeful deity – in Jamali’s paintings man is bringing on his own apocalypse through the threats of Nuclear war, the destruction of the environment and the catastrophic natural disasters which occur from it, and the disintegration of human moral fiber – collectively, we are the 4 mythical horsemen, capable of bringing on our own destruction with our own hands. In these monumental oil paintings, Jamali continues in the tradition of art history’s major artists by keeping this myth of the four deadly riders alive, illustrating their power not as an experience to fear, but as one in which the viewer can identify with and heal from.
