As part of our technical assistance for artists and local arts groups, BAC offers free professional development seminars in the arts throughout the year. These programs are designed to help artists and arts organizations in all disciplines further their professional development skills, so that they may more effectively respond to their audiences and constituents.
Presenters include professionals from a range of fields related to the arts and arts management. Topics include funding opportunities, legal issues, marketing, and business issues pertaining to the management of one’s work or within small arts organizations.

Profit vs. Nonprofit Arts Organizations: What’s Right for You?

This workshop will provide information about the basic differences between profit and nonprofit entities, with a focus on the requirements for organizing LLCs and for-profit corporations, such as articles of organization, publication requirements and filing fees. The federal and state requirements for starting a nonprofit organization will also be covered, such as articles of incorporation, bylaws, and the first organization meeting, as well as the IRS Code Section 501©(3), EIN, charitable contributions and restrictions on lobbying. An overview of fiscal sponsorship will also be covered.
