Systems of scientific classification encounter a variety of conflations and distortions in the debut exhibition for San Francisco based artist Dana Harel. Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species; KPCOFGS serves as a springboard for an exploration of our kinship with the natural world, our apprehensions when faced with natural processes and examinations of how humanity is both separated from and integrated into nature.

Harel’s drawings, heavily informed by the precise draftsmanship of her training as an architect, have recently moved in the direction of fresh and unique hybrids, combinations of aspects of the natural world. Leaving behind furniture and constructed environments, the newest drawings seamlessly integrate shadow-puppetry, animals, vegetal growths and human limbs. “Kin” will include approximately 12 new drawings and several sculptural objects combining architectural ingenuity and found objects.
