“Lighter then Fiction”,2010 is Jenny Marketou’s first solo project at Chelsea Art Museum and consists of a video installation in which Marketou engages principles from aeronautics, aerial surveillance, ballooning, recreation, landscape, architecture, data mapping and video streaming to re-think the way we experience space and the environment and how we relate to one another. Sounds, shots, sequences and subjects are used to examine the way in which the viewer is triggered into feelings of fear, disturbance and suspense. She combines video editing techniques basically manipulating and destroying the order and the coherence of the narrative and bringing into question the very notion of documentary versus fiction and challenges the traditional objectivity of “mapping” reality.
