"The Promised Lands" The Jewish Experience in America and Israel

Israel is celebrating its 60th year, and Jewish Americans are reflecting on the meaning of both promised lands: Israel and America, the place where their own forebears made a new life. Paintings, photography or sculptures for this show will express family traditions, social justice, and the blending of cultures…perhaps a landscape painting of the old neighborhood, a still life with bagel, or an abstract of a passionate ideal. This members’ show will be teamed with an exhibit of art by Tibor Spitz, who escaped the Holocaust as a youngster, and expresses his optimism for the future with bright neo-impressionist paintings.

The opening reception will be on Saturday, April 5th, from 5:00pm to 8:30pm.

As a special artistic contribution to this opening, we welcome Sharon Klein, who has just returned from a month long trip to Israel. Sharon, who is a composer and multi-insrumentalist will be playing and singing original and classic niggunim and piutim (wordless Jewish melodies) on the classical guitar, oud and buzuk. She is student of Middle Eastern music and will be performing on her hand made instruments from Israel, Turkey and Syria.
