P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center is proud to announce the tenth anniversary of Warm Up, the critically acclaimed series of live music and DJ acts that has become one of New York’s most exciting and anticipated summer events. This year’s Warm Up will be housed in an urban farmland, P.F.1 (Public Farm One), featuring live and blossoming vegetation created by the winners of the 2008 Young Architects Program, WORK Architecture Company.
This summer will mark the second year Warm Up has featured a curatorial team led by P.S.1 Director of Public Programming and Managing Director of Art Radio WPS1.org David Weinstein and co-curators Jason Drummond and Zach Layton. David Weinstein says, √¢‚Ǩ≈ìThis year’s Warm Up celebrates its tenth anniversary with the widest and wildest collection of bands, DJs, and musical experimenters. We have legendary artists alongside a new generation of musicians brought from near and far √¢‚Ǩ‚Äú from France and Finland to Brooklyn’s Black Rock Coalition, from punk and funk to electronic and psychedelic. Every day will be a six hour musical thrill ride.√¢‚Ǩ¬ù
Past Warm Up live performances and DJ sets have included renowned international acts such as Body & Soul, DJ Harvey, Groove Collective, Juan Atkins, Stacey Pullen, Lovebug Starski, MU, Monolake, Afrika Bambaataa, Mad Professor, Richie Hawtin, Trevor Jackson, DJ Craze, Charlie Dark, Vikter Duplaix, Fischerspooner, Frederic Galliano, Kid Koala, Arto Lindsay, Scissor Sisters, Jeannie Hopper, Ursula Rucker, Derrick May, Swayzak, Luke Vibert, X-Press 2, Danny Wang, Dennis Ferrer, The Martinez Brothers, Psychic TV, and many more.
The music series, produced by P.S.1 Director of Operations Antoine Guererro, was conceived in 1997 as a summer-long dance series to attract crowds to Long Island City, Queens, and P.S.1. It now draws thousands of local and international visitors every Saturday for a merging of exciting music, contemporary art, and fascinating people. It has received critical attention both state and worldwide. Time Out New York readers voted Warm Up the “best club” in New York City, and The Observer (UK) ranked it #10 of “The 20 Hottest Beach Parties in the World.”
Warm Up will also be streamed live on Art Radio WPS1.org. Simply visit www.wps1.org every Saturday, July 5 through September 6, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST and enjoy full access to the music, along with on-the-spot artist and DJ interviews. The broadcasts will be archived on WPS1.org.
